Homiletics on 2 John

Lord help me grow closer to you and deeper in your word.

Okay, so I'm starting to do homiletics over various parts of scripture that my loving mentor is challenging me with. I'm not going to do the full homiletics :) so keep reading. Please forgive me if I in any way misinterpret God's word, and lovingly direct me in the correct direction. Remember, I am just an ordinary girl on this wonderful journey :) Not a Paul, more like a Peter.

Read 2John Click here

SUBJECT SENTENCE
A letter to encourage and instruct believers in Christ.
AIM
Cause the audience to realize that Jesus is truth and anything that does not point to him is deception.
SPECIFIC APPLICATION
1. In what way do others speak truth into my life? (v1-3)
2. How can I encourage other believers to walk in truth? (v4-6)
3. Where am I tempted to leave Jesus behind? (v7-11)
4. Who am I taking time and investing into? (v12-13)

So there you have it! I challenge you to do the same. Take scripture, read it, meditate on it, ask God to reveal his word in a clear deeper way. And if you make a mistake, learn from it and continue on :)

NEHEMIAH: a heart that can break...

In a few weeks, I will be starting my very first bible study group in my home. We will be diving into NEHEMIAH with the help of Kelly Minter.  I am beyond excited to see what God has in store for us this summer. Sweet and to the point, this study of God's word is a jumping off point, a catapult if yo will, to "discover what God has already placed on my heart to do." So ladies (and gents) I encourage you to follow along with us as we blog about what God is doing in this small little Corinthian group as we get our hands dirty and let the God of ALL creation work and mold us into HIS beautiful masterpiece.

"...listen closely to what breaks your heart, because a broken heart is often the very thing God uses to restore the broken."

I WILL FOLLOW

On our journey to sanctification, there is always a next step and tonight I took mine. I laid aside my pride, my preconceived notions, and kept my eyes solely on Jesus. Now, let me give you some history that lead up to tonight.
A little over a month ago I was talking with my baby girl about baptism and what following Jesus looks like. In that conversation, Belle stated that she wanted to be baptized. As all good Momma's do, I asked the very simple question..."Why do you want to be baptized, what's the reason driving this desire?" As I look in my review mirror checking my daughter's expression, she sweetly says..."I want you to be proud of me." Oh how that sweet but not so accurate response opened a whole new discussion...but not between me and her (yet) but one between me and God.
Later that week, I continued to seek God on this topic and why it was so pressing on my heart. Really not so much about Belle, but in regards to my own baptism and my walk with the Lord. I have struggled ever since I was in high school about my baptism as a child. Jesus has always been chasing after my heart and affection towards him. Simply said, once I had a certain amount of head knowledge of who Jesus was and is in my life, I was encouraged to get baptized...because that's what good little baptist girls do. I truly think the Enemy used this against me for this long to keep me in the desert. But oh how sweet our Lord and Savior is!!! Even though I was walking in circles in the desert, he continued to reveal himself to me in so many ways.
In the weeks to come, I would have many "God Echos" as we call them in our church family. The next series our pastor started teaching on was "I will Follow" which emphasized on following Jesus and how baptism was such a wonderful and necessary NEXT step in following after him. The pastor that I podcast was teaching on being a disciple of Jesus. The book I was reading spoke about listening to God and go back if you are not hearing from HIM and do the last thing he asked you to do...Be OBEDIENT...he is good and trustworthy!!!
So this week I really started to press into Him, and asking is Baptism really my next step??? I've already been baptized...wasn't that good enough? I knew who you were, I could answer all the questions correctly. Why do you want me to do this again? And as sweet as my baby girl's heart was that day in the car, my Lord's words were even sweeter. God impressed on my heart "I AM PROUD OF YOU, I LOVE YOU...I WANT YOU TO DO THIS FOR ME, NOT FOR ANYONE ELSE. ARE YOU WILLING TO DO THIS FOR ME?" At that, my heart broke at the sense of my own pride and fear of what others would think and that I cared more about OTHERS for the past 13 years then my own obedience and walk with the Lord. Well not anymore!!! I said YES to MY LORD because I was tired of being an Israelite walking in the desert when my promise land was just over the horizon. An oasis is no longer good enough for me, I am walking hand in hand into the promise land with MY SAVIOR. :)
